Crate Engine

has anyone ever bought an engine from Jon Barrett? I ordered an engine from him in Jan. still not here, is that normal? Getting a little worried with the down payment.

Is it close enough that you could drive there ??
Or ask someone that lives in the area to pay a visit on your behalf. And to answer your question, that seems like an awful long time to wait for an engine to be built,8 months for something that shouldnt take any more than a month. Can you contact the better business bureau or local police or other authorities in his area.If it were me,I would be rattling his chain any way I could.

Well I was told four to six weeks for the engine. It would help if they would answer my phone calls. When I did talk to a human last time they told me how busy they were. I think that was just to get me off the phone and as for driving there I'm in Washington state so it my be time for a road trip.

I have no personal experience with JB engines but I do remember reading on Streetrodding.com about a guy that was having trouble getting his engine. Same thing ....we'll get back to ya... don't know the out come.

I would send a registered letter from an attorney telling them to refund my deposit to start with. I did that once, cost about $250.....got immediate results....good luck

Well now this is very Interesting....Dave31, I just read a thread in the "Off Topic" section by "TonyZ" who said he is taking a well known engine builder in Oklahoma to court for not sending him all of his engine parts, been going on for 1 1/2 yrs.!!!!! I guess maybe the info I saw on Streetrodding.com has some merrit after all. Like I told TonyZ, you guy's need to get together. Keep us apprised of what goe's on...... and good luck, Dave

Dave good luck!!! I've been dealing with Jon Barrett and John Cline, the middle man who every once and a while answers the phone, only to put you on hold since March of 2007. They both are masters of excuses and making you feel "it's all good" once you do talk to them. I have been EXTREMELY patient, I think 1 1/2yrs will prove that, with them. I have made hundreds of calls and about 20 emails. I have had 6 returned calls and 1 returned email. If you do receive your engine hopefully all your CORRECT parts will be there.

Oh that's great I have been getting the same story from John Cline. I got this company from the Good-guys magazine I thought I was dealing with a business that won't do that. I guess the magazine is out to make money. I did talk to Cline today and he told me the engine was almost ready to go. But I have learned to not believe anything he says. Well thanks for all the help and info you guys have given me. Tonyz and words of advice?

Thats exactly where I got the the number. We tried contacting the Good Guys Mag. to let them know about the business practices of Jon Barrett but they didn't seem to care. Good luck with your motor....one thing to think about. If you still owe money pay with a credit card you still will be able to get back your other half of money if there is missing parts on your motor. Again just don't let them tell you the parts are on the way because after 90 to 120 days you have no recourse through the card company for a partial refund.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking that I will drive down there it is going to cost me a pretty penny for Washington state but I thought that I could check the engine before paying the remaing amount. Thats if they ever get it done. (Hoping) I hate getting screwed! Thanks again.

crate engine

Any luck on getting your motor form JON BARRETT HOT ROD ENGINES. After you and I talked on the phone I went ahead and filed a small claims against him and won. Now I have to get a collection agency involved to try and chase him down for the money. Hopfully your purchase doesn't end up like mine.

Barrett Engine

Tonyz I was glad to hear from you. I have a engine on the way it took some threats but I got or I should say it's on the way. I have a tracking number and it's in Salt Lake city now. How did you come out with you problem? I have a personal cell number for Barrett if needed. Dave
