I want to install a fastburn zz4 crate engine in my 65 el camino i have a stock power glide and 10 inch rear do i have to beef up the rear end? i would
like to put 3.73 posi in the rear and 2200 stall converter i would like to use this as a daily driver for a year any suggestions

It will hold up well, unless you plan on making frequent trips to the drag strip.

Crate engines belong in crates. Build yourself your own combination. It is generally cheaper and is certainly much more satisfying.

Is your rear the 10.2 or the 10.5? The 10.2 is ok, but if it is the 10.5, those rear ends can hold a lot of hp. I also agree that you could get some more hp and satisfaction out of a motor that you had built to your own specs if you havent already bought your motor. If this is something you are considering, I would get an idea of the parts you want to run, and call up a company called Revolutionary Performance to get your motor built. They are really nice people, and from what I have seen and heard, they do great work for a fair price.

Well that was an intelligent posting. Oh, I forgot, your the proud owner of a Corvette that someone else built. I am proud to have built my own 400 sb Corvette and it was very satisfying.

Only he was not asking about about the engine he already knows what he wants to do. It was a rear end question that was anwsered. I know many people see the crate engine as the easy way out but you have to think there area good number of people who want to enjoy a muscle car but really can't build an engine. It would cost more to have someone built it for you not to mention the fact that you may not know enough to even make a good combo. I guess it comes down to being a perferance thing. I like to build my own but I understand why other people buy cates...

Yeah, I thought the same about yours . Make a blanket statement like that and expect no comment.....? I am old enough that I have built my share of performance engines over the years. Crate engines be they Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler or a specialty shop, are an exceptional value for todays rodders. I doubt very seriously I could have built an engine equal to the Fastburn in my 34, considering all the machining, aluminum heads and the like for what I paid for it. In addition to a one year warranty from GM. I do not knock anyone who takes the initiative to build their own engines. I think you would come off sounding a lot more credible IMO if you would not knock people who choose to buy a crate engine.

BTW the Z06 is not mine, it's my son's.

There is a lot to be said for a warranty!! Especially if you are not an experienced builder. It's one thing to swap out a performance engine, but it's a whole different ball game to build one and make it last. Sometimes its cheaper to do like Andy told Aunt Bee and " Just call the man". Then smoke some tires.

Why are you always so negative? A person who doesn't have tools or knowledge etc, or a person who just wants a "built" engine - either can benefit from the crate engines.
