Crate engine Newbie question

Hello I am still in the planning stages for my 50s chevy pickup...I was just had a few questions about crates engines..

1. Any recomendations on a small block 350? I was looking at the zz4 but its like 4k without half the goodies

2. Any trannys that mate up good to that motor? kinda want a $700-1000 range.

3. As far as plumbing what else do you have to run besides coolant and a fuel line and ignition? (told ya im a newbie )

4. Any links to good info about basic crate engine installation?

thanks in advance,

Adam

Crate engine Newbie question

If you want to do this on a 21 year olds budget - buy yourself a donor car or truck. That's what I did when I built my 51 pickup 15 years ago. You will then get a engine, transmission and rearend that all work together already. Do a little research and find a combination that will work for the way you want to drive your truck. You can then get yourself aftermarket motor, trans and rear end mount kits. You will also have all the "plumbing and wiring" available as well.

If I were you, everyone uses a 350, try to use something unique. Like a 355ci or a 383 something like that, even a 327 or a DZ302 camaro z/28 motor. Lots of choices. Trannys, you can find some nice th400 trannys or even a used 700r4 would be good too.

cool thanks guys,

Just thought of somethin, since I was already going with the s10 rolling chasis maybey I will find one that runs so at least I can move it around and take it short distances...hmmmm....I could see everyone laughing when u popped the hood though haha...oh well it would only be temp

another thing I just thought of, once I get it rolling I can take the 4link and air bags and wheels out of my s10 and transfer them to the chevy....hmm this could work out better than I planned.
