Post crazy shifts

I have a 1964 chevy c-10 pickup with 402 bbc, I had a th350 behind it and loved the performance. But I couldn't get on the highway (low speed rearend). Would anyone know the gear ratio for this truck, six lug ,standard shift. So I had a 700r4 trans rebuilt. Now I can get on the highway but my performance now is terrible. It won't even spin a tire now. Is there a such thing as too much gear for and o/d trans. But if I change rearends I defeat the purpose of building the 700r4. It shifts to quick and hesitates when it shifts when I mash in it. But in that hesitation my engine revs high. I have tried adjusting the tv cable but no results. Should I have put a stall converter in the trans, or will changing the rearend help. I did have a shift kit put in the 700r4 but I'm just getting poor performance!!

Your problem is most likely in the TV cable adjustment. Gone are the days you can slide the cable back and forth 'til you like the shift points. These new overdrives are CRITICAL on TV setting. Miss it by a few 1000ths and you will burn it up very quickly. Take it to a good tranny shop and have it set properly and resist the urge to tinker!!

also the 700r is very particular about rear end ratios, governor speeds, road speed to throttle opening etc.
