CRC Parts Washer Solvent vs. Berryman's Chem Dip

Hi All,

I am interested in buying a five-gallon bucket of parts cleaner for dipping carburetor parts and such. The two that I've found are the Berryman's Chemp-Dip / B-9 Cold Parts Cleaner and the CRC Parts washer Solvent.

I have used Berryman's before and it worked great, but it is quite expensive. The cheapest 5 gallon I found is about $115 shipped from a not-so-well known-website. Other wise its roughly $140. The CRC Solvent is available locally for about $85. However, I have not seen any reviews for it. And I could be wrong, but I think the CRC solvent is for parts washer machines.

I wanted to ask if any members here have used the CRC stuff and what they think of it. If it comes down to it that the CRC solvent won't cut it (pun intended), then I'll spend the extra money on the Chem Dip.

Or if you have a suggestion for a better product at a reasonable price, I am open to that as well.

Thanks in advance!

Very different solvents. The Barrymans has methylene chloride as the main ingredient (at least it did in '06) and when used on carbs, etc. there's little out there that does a better job. Limiting your exposure is highly recommended. The parts washer solvent is something akin to mineral spirits.

MSDS tells the stories-

Got it. Glad I asked before going with the local offering. I'll spend the extra money and stick with what works. Thanks Cobalt!

Considering the expense of the Barryman's, clean the parts with a cheaper solvent first. then let the Barryman's do the hard work.

Wear protective gloves, and a face shield with either.
