Cross drilled mains?
Hello-
I just ordered a new steel Scat crank for my low boost 6-71 454 project. I couldn't really afford the forged one so I went for a cast steel. This engine will see 5-8 lbs of boost and will only be a street driven, weekend cruiser. I couldn't decide between the Eagle and the Scat. I went with the Scat and ordered it from Summit. Only after I ordered it did I realize that it had cross drilled mains, I just overlooked it Is this going to be a problem? Do I need different style bearings. I have done some research here, but it didn't really answer my question. I do have a high volume oil pump. I plan on sending it out for the double keyway. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCA-910454/ **EDIT** I went to the Scat websight and found this. WTH? They say they WILL NOT cross drill. "SCAT is committed to manufacturing only the highest quality crankshafts and we WILL NOT cross drill cranks even though the process is easier and cheaper." http://www.scatcrankshafts.com/scatt...s_Drilling.pdf Do you think this is a misprint on the Summit site? Guess I will give them a call. Thank you for looking Steve Last edited by NOlowrider; 04-21-2010 at 09:03 PM. |

Hi Steve,
The cross drill is for continues oiling, the bearings one half has a grove in it, & as one hole is covered by the solid half of the bearing, the other hole opens. Rich |
