Cummins rat rod

I didn't know where to post this but it's cool. A 5.9 Cummins in a rat rod. The motor alone weighs more than most entire rat rods do.

It's cool and he didn't really get after it in the video.

Last night I was at the local Sat nite rod show and a guy had a nice CAB Over with a tilt flat bed. It had a 454 and turbo 400 mounted behind the cab...mid engine style. Nice chrome 4" stacks. It would have been a perfect Cummins conversion. It would have probabaly got 18 mpg maybe more with 12 valve.

I've seen good Cummins motors for 5-6k complete so they are within what a BBC costs. 12 valve are mechanical injection so there are no real electronics to deal with.

Some day when my ship comes in maybe I'll do one.

I know nothing about diesel motors. Would a old Mercedes be a deicent doner for a rat rod? I just love to here them rattle. Seems it would be the perfect sound comming from a rat.

LOL Man, that's not even in the parking lot of the company that makes the box! I wonder what he ate before he went to sleep and dreamed that up?

From the looks of the neighborhood,, I would think the neighbors would have called the cops in a heartbeat,,
Also in another video of this car, they are in some industral area,, it may not be street legal yet.. kool idea tho,,

Yeah, a MB would be a nice diesel. One with mechanical injection would be best I think. Much easier to tune. Diesels are easy, got fuel and air it will run. No spark plugs or ignition to deal with. Last forever. Diesel fuel is also and excellent solvent for the parts washer, also makes good barbecue starter.

Also makes giant pitch black clouds of soot on demand to lay waste to those who don't know how to behave on the road. haha

While trying to get in to the back to the 50's event last week end some dude in Lexus tried to cut in. The truck guys pretty much had the 2 lanes sealed off so if someone wanted to cut in they were going to have to go the wrong way in the open lanes for the streetrod guys. The cop were watching for this.

Anyway this dude pulls out and comes down the street. Nobody will let him in and he is up to the barricade. Well there was a Powerstroke guy behind me and he waves at me. He is right on my bumper. As I go by this Lexus I pumped 5 big shots of soot at him. I mean I had the Smarty set on kill just for this event. haha The whole street was under eclipse. This Power stroke guy is going thumbs up which is like a love song from Power stroke to Cummins. haha

That's not the end. There were only parking spots on the last row left. this is about 6 blocks from the street. So I'm going down the main isle and I see this Lexus again...somebody let him in. He is parking at the end of a row over from the main. Only he is parking out inthe isle!! WTH. This leaves only room for 2 cars to get by at best. So I turn down the next row work my way over next to him. They are long gone by now. I got my soot pipe about 10 feet away and laid down another 5 big shots. haha So I go and park in the last row. As I walk in I go by the Lexus. It's covered with micro black bats. haha. But he funny thing is the roll back that is coming down the isle. There was another scooping up another car doing the same thing. I hope they got the Lexus too. served him right.

I usually don't throw soot all over the place like this but these guys need to wait in line an hour like everyone else.

rant.

it's mine

the truck in question is mine.
It started as a 1939 chevy pick up.
Then got chopped and channeled we had a 350 sb and took it out to put a blower with retro speed 3-deuces fuel injection.........then I got to thinking alot of blown sb out there what would be real different....BAM cummins (I was looking at my 05 twin turbo dodge cummins 106 psi boost) and 5.9 would not fit correctly so I found a 3.9 and the videos were the first day home.
we are currently putting a built p7100 and a set of twin turbos on it for next year.
looking for around 200hp per cylinder and stupid torque.
best part 48mpg last time out cruising around 100 mile trip at 60-70mph.

hope you guys like it if so I'll keep ya posted.
Mike
