That would be pretty tough to find the original guages, and have them work as well
but I'm sure you can get some nice repro ones and as long as you have the right dash and want the repro ones, then they should slide right in. You can always get aftermarket guages for the custom look you want and even if they don't quite fit, say the dash guage holes are too large, there are some pretty cool tricks that some people post up on here (pretty cool trick with resin and fabric, awesome how-to project by kristcustoms) that solve that problem while adding a very unique look to the dash so gl with what you want and make it a killer dash.

Yeah- I've read a lot of posts about fiberglassing custom panels and dashes and all that. It's definitely cool. I could give it a shot, I guess; But, of course I'll try the easiest (and cheapest) way first. I've seen OEM, and new reproduction gauges for sale; I can buy an entire instrument panel, with all the gauges and the lense, brand new for around $790 (on ebay).... The problem with that is it's $790!!
If I could get away with putting some non-Chevelle specific new gauges from Summit, or someone similar, in the original instrument panel; and only have to make a few modifications, or metal brackets or something, that would be grand. Once I get the time to start tinkering with it more, I'll be able to pull the cluster apart, and see what I have to work with. Hopefully I'll figure something out. Thanks for the reply |

Well, $790's not terrible considering how some places try and rip you off on just the dash (SUMMIT!!!) and you're also getting the repro guages with it which should have all the brackets you need to install, it's just a matter of forking over the money
but you can also go for some aftermarket guages if you don't want to spend that much, completely up to you.

Wow- I didn't expect to hear from this thread anymore. Sometimes good stuff pops up when you least expect it...
Hey tmal, Got any pictures of your custom set up?? I've seen one guy's setup on here that was pretty sweet- and only took a little dremmel work. I guess the custom possibilities are about endless. I'm gonna PM you about that cluster- Later, Nooj |
