Custom Headliner for Fairlane

Iíve been looking at repo headliners for my 64 Fairlane. All Iíve seen thus far are done in original style Materials and stock colors.
1 Can anyone steer me to someone who will make one in custom colors and fabrics?
2 Has anyone replaced a similar style liner with some other type? (Rigid, foam, etc)
3 Should an average guy with some sewing skills and a pattern be able to stich up his own headliner?
4 Are there certain fabrics to avoid?
This is a 64 Fairlane 2 door sedan, there is currently no headliner in the car, I have the bows, tac strips etc. the glass is all out right now, and Iíll be working around a full roll cage.
Any info will be appreciated

Actually quite a few of the guys have figured it out for the same reasons that you have..Could not get what they wanted/needed at the parts store..

I suggest that you do a search and read thru some old posts to see whar others have done,,

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..

An upholsterer can make you a headliner from scratch. If you want to tackle it yourself, you can buy a cheapy headliner, cut it apart and use the parts for a pattern. Avoid fabrics that are stiff. I'm not crazy about standard headliner material, so I make mine out of wool broadcloth. A lot more expensive, but it makes a beautiful headliner. The pics are from a headliner in a 49 Packard. If you contact Kanter Auto Products by phone, you should be able to send them your fabric and they will probably make you one from their patterns with your fabric. I'm sure it will cost you more. No one lives forever, the trick is creating something that will.
