Question custom hood hinges

I'm new to the board and I need some help.

I have a 57 willys wagon that I have implanted a 351W, new power booster and master cylinder. the orginal firewall was torn to piece and patched back together. So I replace the firewall with nice straight sheet metal. But here is the problem. Since I have installed the booster, cylinder and a new heater/defroster in the cab. I will not be able to use the orginial hood hinges that would have to insert into the firewall. I need to find some that would bolt up to the firewall not pass through it. A friend suggested that I use some jeep hinges but I didn't want the hinge to be outside of the engine compartment.

Can anyone help me find a retailer that may have some or if anyone has a suggestion I'm more than happy to give it a shot.. thanks Pete

I'm looking for a set of hinges that I can use that bolts to the firewall verses using the orginal ones. Oh I forgot to mention that the defroster and booster is now in the way of where the orginal hinges would have been installed. Does that make since.. Pete

Do they bolt to/through the hood? If so, why not just use door type hinges from Home Depot?

NO the orginial ones didn't go through the hood. I'm not building a show car but I wanted to keep the outside clean. That's why I don't want to use the newer style cause the would attach to the outside of the hood to the cowl. I'm just trying to keep it all in the engine compartment..

Can you use the door type hinge and hide the hood screws under the hood?

Well I don't think so.. There is a 1" to 1 1/2" lip that protrudes from the cowl to seal the engine compartment that the rear of the hood rests on when closed..

http://williamsstreetrods.com/ try this site. I got a pair of hood hinges from them that may help you. You'll have to ask for a picture and they will be happy to supply you with the info. They are a scissor type and mad from billet alum. The hinges mount to a FLAT surface

Good luck

shop the junk yards...

find a Fiero and pull off the hood and trunk hinges...one or the other will work...I save things like that.
