Custom subwoofer Box Quick Question.

Hi guys iv already made a sketch of a sub-woofer box I am going to make. Its gonna be made of MDF and then fiber-glassed over, then painted over. It is gonna be a square box but in the portion that the people will be looking at I want it to be somewhat round. The box is gonna be about 3 feet wide. I'm trying to find a way to make a nice even curve. Iv heard of people using welding wire but I would like to have your input. THanks, Chris

Sorry kinda lost I am not sure exactly what you want to do, a drawing of some sort might help with the mental pic.

I may be way off but from what I am picturing the best way would be to make the box then cover it in a foam that will take glass, then shape and form that. In that way you could fill in where you went to far build up areas and in general play with the look. Then glass it and to get a flawless look you need to find a marine shop and get a flexible filler, you put it on and sand it pretty much off leaving filler in just the low spots then paint.

Here is a quick sketch. http://groups.msn.com/BettaPics/sho...oto&PhotoID=102

Im gonna be making the main structure of the box out of mdf wood. Then im just gonna fiberglass it and paint it. I just want to know how to make a accurate curve.

Lay the curve out on poster board using a flexible ruler or free hand. Once you get it the way you want it then transfer it to 1/8" MDF and work it to the shape you want. The thinner material will be easy to work with. Now double stick tape that template to your 3/4" MDF and use a router with a flush trimming bit. The template will allow you to make both top and bottom the exact same. The 1/8" is flexible so it can be bent to fit the front, then laminated using polyurethane glue to the thickness you need.
