Custom Tail Light lens

I have 4 NOS AMC park lights from the '60s. These are the simple oval ones with the thin chrome edge that mount on an angle like in the bumper face. They use an 1157 bulb and would be perfect for a rear pan if they didn't have amber lenses.

The lenses are flat so a custom red one would be easy to make if I could get the right Lexan with a difused back side. I don't want to use clear red plexi. I want them to look like real tail light lenses.

Has anyone had any luck finding the right material for custom lenses?

I had to make part of one for an old Grand Ville, so I went by the local Chevy body shop & did a little dumpster diving. I found a very slightly damaged but big (and free) taillight from a wrecked Chevy, and glued pieces of it where the Pontiac lens was broken. You just need to find a light that's bigger than the Rambler lights.

Or, you might drop by a parts store (or Wal-Mart) and see what they have in truck/trailer tail light lenses.

My utility trailer has oval tail-light lenses that might be around the right size. What's the height & width that you need?

I'm not sure what size they are, but I made custom frenched tailights for my 39 pontiac shaped like the pontiac arrowhead, and I searched everywhere for lense material, what I finally used was ford tailgate reflector. It's used on ford pickups from the 80's, it works out nice because it's long and flat and smooth, and the back is diffused. Another option is to use ruby red plexiglass with a clea diffuser behind it, you could use a piece of that stuff they use over flourescent ceiling lights for example. Hope this helps.
