Customer Service

I went into a local speed shop called Mr. B's in Rock Hill yesterday in search of a transmission or any advice for my '69 Mustang. Upon pulling into the parking lot, I saw 2 '97+ camaros and a Formula Firebird parked outside. I walked in with no thought of 'Chevy/Ford' discrimination.

After talking with the clerk, I made sure he knew that I was only interested in a Ford transmission. Either a C4 or C6 to go behind my 351 SB. Right away, he tried to tell me how, "Aww man you don't want that. If you bolt up a powerglide to it, you can take off soooo much better." Then his little goon friends sitting on the barstools at the counter started shaking their heads in disgust trying to get me to buy a rebuilt chevy transmission cause they think it would work better.

Now I'm all open to suggestions, but when you try to sell me something that I obviously don't want in my car, wouldn't you get a little pi$$ed too? I told the guy, "Well thanks for your help, but I think I'm going with the C4 since it's lighter and I'm not pushing more than 400+HP to do any real damage to it. Thanks for your help." On my way out, I could hear them talk about how I should have went with a chevy.

All I have to say is. . . . . WTF? How inconsiderate can you get?

Makes you wonder how he pays his bills if he's always chasing off potential customers... I'd write him a little thank you note for stopping you from spending your hard earned dollars in his shop. If you're like me one sour first impression will keep me from going back...

I'm one of those Chevy into whatever transplant guys. My buddy had a 289 HiPo C6 in a Fairlain, after the second C6 and numerous costly repairs to the 289 we swapped it out for a 350/350 Chevy setup. No problems since?? And His 46 Ford flathead 3spd standard setup is being swapped out for a 350/350 setup this winter. He has a 36 Ford he's saving the flatty setup for but hes also building up a 283 power-glide too. I do believe if your willing to pay for it you can get your Ford setup to work for you though. I can't remember the last time I bought a Ford trans for $50 and ran it for 10 years and junked the car and put the engine and trans into another car?? I have had good luck with Chevy stuff. One of the guys at work is building up a 426 wedge engine and offset duel quad with 727 trans and he has no car to put it in, none, he drives a Ford truck??? Its a free country man, you run what you want to run, it's nobody business anyway!!
