On a 69 Chevy 1/2 ton, what is the rule of thumb ( If there is one ) on cutting coil springs? I want to lower both ends 2 inches, and need to know how to figure how many coils I need to cut.
Thanks
Having owned several of those trucks I can tell you that cutting one coil on the front will lower you 2 inches. Lowering springs are available for those trucks now, I wouldn’t cut the stock ones. The rears shouldn’t be cut at all. I had longer u-bolts made and used lowering blocks. Check out www.stockcarproducts.com they have lowering blocks for “Truck Arm” suspensions and they should have the u-bolts as well.
My brother just bought a set of air bags for his 69 truck, so he has a full set of lowered springs for sale. I don't know how much it lowered the truck in inches, but there's about an 1 1/2" clearance from the top of the tire to the wheel well with 295/50's on a set of 15x10's. They were custom made (when lowering springs weren't available). Let me know if you're interested, and I'll ask him how much he wants for them...
Sorry for the no reply, I went on vacation. My brother is still out of town, so I'll get back to you when he gets back (the next couple of days). If I remember correctly, I think he wanted 150 for all four (plus shipping). I'll let you know for sure when he gets back.
