Cutting Leaf Springs

I need to cut a set of leaf springs in half to make quarter elliptic springs for my car.
what do i use to cut these? i'm afraid the springs will be hard on bandsaw blades, and i thought a chop saw might make them too hot and either lose the temper or at least stess them... so how is it done?

thanks

You can use a chop saw. Just dont go all gorilla on it. Let the blade do the work and you'll be fine.

Don't have a chop saw? A die grinder with a cut off disc will do it too. If you don't have one of those I say go buy one, one of the most useful tools you could ever have around the shop.

wet cut

A lot of times I use a spray bottle with water to cut stuff with My old 220 V belt drive chop saw. when I don't want to ruin the temper.
The wet grit and metal will set up like cement so clean it off before you need a jackhammer to get the big clumps off.
You can reshape leaf springs to get ride height. I used my harbor freight pipe bender, with just the pins, no rollers. Chalk the pattern you want for the bend, mark the spring an inch apart them just slide it along putting a little bend at a time and work it back and forth. Watch the far end of the spring as you bend Just tweek it a little. Those kits are way too expensive for what you get. , some spring shops can re-arch your springs. but I do most of the stuff myself.
