cutting pullys

I'm swapping a 302 into my 56 and will be running v belts. The crank pulley I have has 4 separate pulleys on it and with the fan bolted to the water pump, the fan lays against the pulley. Does anyone know a reason why I can't just cut the unneeded, obstructive pulley off to make clearance?

I cannot think of any except that it may be put out of balance .
Why not get a crank pully with fewer grooves and save the trouble of cutting it. Sell it on ebay.
Or get a fan with a longer snout or make an extension for it.
Just a thought. Good luck.
