cvj on 1978 chevy 4x4 truck front driveline

the u joint has a ball of steel on the end that balances it, but i dont have all the parts so there in no pressure on the ball, hence the driveline is unstable. any ideas?

X2 I had a '78 K-10 The center ball has a spring load to it. Probably got left out by the last guy to put a u-joint in the CV.
