cylinder head question for pontiac 350
Hi guys and gals i have a question regarding heads for my pontiac 350. my enigine is out of a 1972 lemans, it has 7H1 heads i guess i have read on here if i swap the heads i can a lot more power, my engine was only rated 175hp new.
So i found a set of rebuilt # 97 heads off a 1967 ram air gto that someone is selling for 700 bucks. will these heads work on a pontiac 350? thanks ahead for the advice |

As a "rule", 350 "likes" the small valve heads better than the large valve. The cylinder bore is too small, "shrouding" the intake valve significantly. While Pontiac DID use large valve heads on the '69 350 "HO", it was found to make more power by replacing the 48s with 47s (small valve, small chamber).
A 72 CC chamber will be good for the 350. As said, 47s are good 350 heads. So are 11s and 17s. That price for the 97s is pretty good, even if they aren't what you're after. Rare. FWIW Jim |

Ok thanks for the info. I guess ill pass oj the heads because I can't afford to buy heads that won't work well on my car limited funds and all. Unless its not a huge power drop going with the 97 heads vs. The 17 heads
Thanks |
