Dana 35 drum/disk swap question

I read the knowledge base and didn't see this question addressed. I'm installing the rear disks off of a 94 Ford crown vic with an 8.8 on my Jeep's dana 35. The bolt pattern is the same, but I had to grind off a little of the lower part of the axle flange to get the plates to mount flat. The new backing plate has a bracket that went up and attached to the crown vic's rear axle, I assume to strengthen the backing plate against torsional force. The bracket won't work on the Dana 35. The brackets too short and there's no place to attach it without welding a plate onto the axle tube.
Is this bracket an essential piece of hardware, or can I just deep six it without asking for trouble? I'm not going to use the anti-lock sensors, so there won't (hopefully) be any violent pulsations of the calipers.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Ford did not engineer it, make it and install it......unless it was necessary.....IMHO...
