dash insterment problems

just bought this 89 ford f 250 and the voltage guage does not work and the fuel guage does not work, fuel guage pegs all the way past full when u turn on the key has any body got a idea. where i can start to check .

Voltage gauge is probably a broken wire, since you get no reading. Pegged fuel gauge usually means the sending unit wire is grounded under the truck. It sometimes happens when an accessory is bolted to the truck (trailer hitch, steps, etc.) and the installer accidentally catches the wire at the same time.
