You should be able to directly swap your dash panels.
'78-'87 G body cars have an unbelievable interchangability.
I own an '81 Malibu with a part '84 Monte Carlo dash part '83 Olds Cutlass Supreme.
The colors of my car never were available in the '81 model year-inside or out, but the changes are easy.
You could also just about as easily upgrade your Monte to the SS front clip I would imagine, IF you wanted to do so.

I don't have any pics yet but that wouldn't take more than a few minutes.
My set-up is just simply remove and replace, everything in my car is NOT the way Chevy intended in 1981.
The dash, steering wheel, door panels, carpet, headliner, seats, and interior lights were removed from other GM G-body 4-door sedans to complete the interior of my car.
I am even removing items like the power trunk release and other options from junkyard cars to give mine every option available for that body style from 78-87.
My car is currently entered in 6 upcoming shows in my area just for the fun of it.
I just sent a picture of it to Jon to have it added as my avatar here on the board.
The worst looking part of the car as of yet is a semi dirty 22 year old plain stock looking engine compartment, but that will change with time.
My wife still wonders why I don't plan on putting one of my Cadillac 500's under the hood like I did with my truck.
