Dash lights
I have a 37 plymouth with the 6V system. The headlights work but none of the dash or interior lights work when I pull the switch. I have put in new bulbs and changed the fuses, still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks! 1937 Plymouth |

Doc here,
Measure the center Conductor of the lamp holder and See if you have 6 volts, If so It's a bad ground you need to track down... If no 6 volts, then it most likely is the headlight switch rheostat itself, the ceramic has cracked and the wire wound variable resistor is open...For that you need to replace the switch. To test, find the wire that provides power to the dimmer, and any lamp on that circuit, with the dim all the way up, and power disconnected, measure with a DMM between each, it should read 000, if good.. If not , the switch is open. Doc

Thanks!
Hey Doc,
Thanks for the info, I'll try that out and see what happens. Brand new to this collector/hotrod stuff, so I'll have a lot of learning to do. 1937plymouth

My '37 Plymouth Coupe had a separate switch for the dash lights located at the bottom lip of the dash, not on the headlite switch. The interior light switch was located on the window (B) pillar at the back of the door on the right side. Wiring to it run along the top chanel behind the headliner and down the A pillar to the glove compartment. Hope this helps

Still lost!
Hey alittle1,
I was wondering what that switch on that post was for. I tried Docs ideas but that did not work. I have a seperate switch for the dash lights also, it pulls out 2 times. I guess I will have to get a new switch. Thanks for the info. PS- How do you like your 37? Best regards! 1937 plymouth |
