Date Codes

What type of parts are date coded and how can I find out if a particular part had a date code?

I'm asking because I have a numbers matching 1979 Camaro Z/28 with a build sheet. The cam, intake, carb, and air cleaner have been upgraded at some point in its life. I want to go back to the originals, but I want the date codes to be correct. From what I have seen, the air cleaner and intake are date coded. Would the cam and carb be date coded as well?

I can't really help you with the intake, cam and air cleaner (other than to say locate whatever style would have come on your car stock - don't know if the intake and air cleaner are date-coded, and the cam wouldn't matter too much I'd think - especially since you can't see it), but the carb would have a stamped code identifying it's application - you would have to match up this stamp in order to have a numbers-matching carb.
