Date of Production

Hey Guys,

I'm looking at a Chevy 400 cid small block and want to know what year it was manufactured.

T0516CKP is on the block along with casting number 3951511.

I'm hoping there's a website where I can put these numbers in and get the year out!

Comments??

Well, I've got some info for you. It's a '70 to '73 from the number you provided (3951511). It's a heavy duty truck or passenger car block with 4 bolt mains. At least that's what I've got from my copy of David Vizards' book 'How to rebuild your small-block Chevy' .

I hope that helps. Some anyhow.

www.mortec.com gives the following.
Chevrolet small block
3951511....400...70-73...4...Some replacement blocks had 2-bolt main caps

T0516CKP comes back:
T = Tonawanda, NY
05 = May
16 = Day of Month
CKP = ???
According to http://www.teufert.net/bbchevy/bbcodes.htm
1970 CKP Chevelle/Chevy II 396cid 375hp TH-Auto Trans. Special High Performance, alum head.
You have VERY conflicting information. SB casting #, with a BB application code.
BUThttp://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/spcode2.html says
1972 CKP 400 turbo hydro trans. 170hp 2bbl carb. Caprice
This sounds a LOT more like it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks so much.

As the new guy here just recently, I suspected this site had archives that would give me this information. My problem is the sudden time restraint. I just have not had the time to search the site for all the goodies.

My brother located the engine for me, but I've a limited time to decide "yea" or "nea" about buying. So, I pull a newbie, and post my question.
