Daytona Nationwide race

Did anyone see the end of the race? If they all could have made it another couple of hundred feet, there would have been a LOT fewer folks hurt.

Last count I heard was 28 fans injured, many seriously, 14 taken to trauma ward.

An engine and a wheel went right through the catchfence

One report said there was debris and some injuries on the upper level of the stand!

That Chlorox car is sure a subcompact now with nothing at all ahead of the windshield or behind the "C" pillar, most of the nose went into the stands

it's a superspeedway, this happens, the engine and wheel didn't go any farthar than the fence, the other wheel is the one that made it into the stands..
that team better check every weld on their cars because the frame and cage don't come apart like that..
most of the fans hurt are stable . you walk into these places knowing full well this can happen..
at least no one got killed..

ghe spindle has a rope around it incase a part fails, but the whole front frame and cage bars failed,, it's a chain link fence with cables behind the link fencing.. the framework shouldn't have come apart.. someones welds are junk.. it might not have stopped the tire from going over, but then again the spindle would need another point to fail.. the 1.5" rope..

Right I have been around racing for a long time,I have done some welding on chassies I can kinda belive the engine came out seen that happen before and if you look at the fence where the car hit it only tore up about what 30 or 50 foot of fence seams like it tore that front clip off kinda easy. I guess it hit just the right way I was at Britol when Michael Waltrip hit the fence where the gate closed that car just collapsed.

nascar

Ihave bean a fan for30years have bin to datona charlet and vegus as well as phenex.was thrilled to see cars looking like actual for sale models.I do not like the engine isues, they should run what each name brand has to offer with displacement limits. It is insane to pay 70,000 plus for a engine.the only winners are4 engine supplers.the little guy(alen quicky) have no chance.no need for speeds of 200mph,and restrictor plates are dummm. smaller engines that ar afordable bring out good competition.the other isue is the advertiseing on tv,why we must see continues adds is beyond me.Iwill probly stop watching nascar, see no sence in supporting hendric, roush, and who makes the tyots engines.

10-15 years ago a wheel went into the stands at Indy in the 4th turn. That wheel made it all the way to the top row. Killed the spectator. Same general area we have sat for 30yr. Another 2ft and it would have cleared the grandstand and went into the parking lot. As a spectator you go to these races and expect to not get hurt, but sometimes no matter how high the fencing, it can't keep stuff out of the crowd. I'll bet the people sitting in that area for today's race will be a little apprehensive, I would.

This video shows nothing but the panic and it is heart breaking. It was shot by someone not five seats away from where the tire hit before during and after the accident. It is absolutely freightening.
