If those 624 heads have in fact been milled to 68cc then that would bump the compression back up a bit, however that brings into play another can of worms. The intake would need to be milled and possibly other variations as well like pushrod length etc.
Id go for the 041s or keep looking. |

65smallblock... yes, the heads I have right now are the pre-vortec swirl port heads... they were on the truck when I bought it.
I don't want to spend a lot on this project, it's just a budget daily driver... I've installed a stage 2 transpak and just picked up a 3.73 eaton posi. The bottom end is rebuilt to stock, has a gear drive and a pretty lumpy cam right now, almost too big for the stock converter. But the cam is on its way out so I figured now is the time to get a decent set of heads, top it off with rollers and buy a new cam for the new setup. |

Just curious as to what was decided on this. What head and cam were selected. I am pretty much aftert the same with my build. Good post.

I almost bought the 041s but I put the money into a new cam first. Bought a comp extreme energy 268 and night and day difference. I'm going to get together a little dough and just buy vortecs....
