If those 624 heads have in fact been milled to 68cc then that would bump the compression back up a bit, however that brings into play another can of worms. The intake would need to be milled and possibly other variations as well like pushrod length etc.

Id go for the 041s or keep looking.

2Wheeler,

Here's the thing about 041 heads. They have 1960's combustion chamber designs. You would be getting a deal on OLD tech. New GM Bowtie Vortec heads have the latest and greatest heart shaped chambers. Less timing for the same power equals less chance of detonation. Flow like gang busters. They are drilled for either centerbolt or perimeter bolt head covers. Screw in studs and guide plates. Thicker decks than the 062 Vortec heads. Tell you what. If you can wait about six months I will sell you my pocket ported 041's when I replace them with the Bowtie Vortec heads. It is always your choice but I would seriously go to Scoggin Dickey website and check these heads out.

65smallblock... yes, the heads I have right now are the pre-vortec swirl port heads... they were on the truck when I bought it.

I don't want to spend a lot on this project, it's just a budget daily driver...
I've installed a stage 2 transpak and just picked up a 3.73 eaton posi.
The bottom end is rebuilt to stock, has a gear drive and a pretty lumpy cam right now, almost too big for the stock converter. But the cam is on its way out so I figured now is the time to get a decent set of heads, top it off with rollers and buy a new cam for the new setup.

I almost bought the 041s but I put the money into a new cam first. Bought a comp extreme energy 268 and night and day difference. I'm going to get together a little dough and just buy vortecs....
