I have a pretty stout 350 in a short bed single cab s10 truck. At the moment I am running 26 inch tall tires, 3.73 rear end behind a turbo 350. I have a 700r4 and a 3.08 rear end sitting in my yard. My highway speed RPM is around 3500 RPM. With my 350 I have a 3000 stall and the 700 has a stock converter. my cam is a voodoo 262. I like my bottom end, but I could use some gas milage and a little more top speed. 700r4 or 3.08?
the rear end swap would be less work, if the taller gears will work with that stall
but i think the best would be to go with the trans swap and buy a converter for it, and keep the lower gears in the rear

I definately agree, trans won't interfere with the motor set up you have, those 3.08's may be sluggish on the low end. Trans will cost a little more unfortunately (converter and driveshaft.)
