decoding ford 302 block
Can you please help I have late model ford block and cannot find any info on how to decode it. The older ford blocks had a number behind where the starter mounted but the new blocks (roller cams) have some id marks below where the back of the heads are. Can anyone help or know of a web site? thank you

I have had a couple of Ford replacement service blocks that had no casting numbers. The only thing they had on them were a small metal stamped tag with the id numbers on them. One of the engines was a 360 and the other one was a 1980 Ford 302. I guess if you have one of these blocks and the metal tag is gone then you will need to do some measuring to find out what cid it is. Then check for one piece rear seal and see if it is a roller block.

One piece seal blocks are termed 5.0, since they have the new lightweight crankshaft balanced at 50 oz/in at the rear and 35 oz/in at the front. One piece seal blocks can be flat tappet or roller tappet. (Two piece seal cranks are 28/28 balance and heavier.) To the best of my knowledge all assembly line 5.0 roller blocks are identical. |
