Question Deep paint look? floating stripe?

OK what i want to do is paint my motorcycle a dark green with a black stripe down the center, about 1" wide with a thin stripe on either side.

I was told that if I laid down the base then laid down a coat of base cut with clear that I would get a deeper looking paint.

What I am thinking is BC / BC/CC mix with a superfine flake / CC then the stripe then more clear. My hope is to get a very deep looking green with some subdtle flash from the flake and have the stripe almost look like it is floating on top. Will it work? Any tips here will help you know what I want.

you should lay down the green base, let it dry for an hour, tape and base coat in the stripe. and then all the clear goes on after the colors.
I was thinking about doing my car with a black base , and alternate coats of clear and clear with pearl for about 4 coats, maybe a ghost flame in purple pearl in clear with an additional two coats of just clear, wet sanded, buffed and polished to a mirror finish. It may be hard to hide the tape ridges in the ghost flames but it will be worth it.
good news is for you, if you mess up, you can wipe it off with thinners and still only use a pint.have fun, mike

When I'm adding a stripe or graphics etc.. I shoot the base, let it flash then shoot some clear, then tape the stripes with thin edge tape, shoot the stripes, then sand lightly, careful on the edges, then shoot the clear.

This way if you mess up you can fix it without getting into the base color. HTH

Good Luck

troy-curt has it right. Applying several coats of clear over the green, then laying out the black stipe followed by final clear will allow the stripe to appear off the base. Light refraction will be different than if the stripe is directly on the base.
