well, i always thought it was the shared love of cars, engines , custom things , anything "unconventional"old dropped, chopped, channelled, blown, hemmied, whatever you love about cars.
but here it seems we love the american hot rod better than the "adopted" foreign children.or even our southern friend low rider doesn't get much talk here.
Maybe it should be called "american muscle car .com". It would probably be more appropriate.
Please don't chew me up for saying this, but i don't care much about graphite center caps,or wings,or bright green paint(except dodge)or anything that doesn't rumble when you hit the gas. My stereo has subs , but i call them bass speakers. If you got a scoop, have something under it.
I don't care if your mitsubi**** with twin turbos can take me in the 1/50th mile.If he and I are in a car show I want him parked next to me so i look better. lol.mike.
just had to vent, me bad.

I agree with both of your replies but Mike if we called it American Muscle car then we would have to define that too.

I think that your first sentence nailed it!!! But, the muscle car encompasses only a small section of HotRodders. True Muscle Cars began in the mid 60's and ended in the early 70's ( I know some 455 T/A owners will disagree but, after 72', true muscle was few and far between). A large percentage of the members here have cars from the 30's-- 40's-- 50's , cars that really come up short in the performance standards of today that have been built and modified to suit the owners taste!! From air-ride and air conditioned comfort to straight axled, hemi-powered gassers -- it's HERE!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, any vehicle that is modified is a Hot Rod. Of course, that would leave out muscle cars, although most of them are modified in some way. I guess a stock muscle car is a "Factory Hot Rod".

So, I guess I was right. A Hot Rod is any car that is modified.

I just heard Rusty Wallace on TV call his race car a "Hot Rod"....I guess he should know what a Hot Rod is......

That whole '2slow 2stuped' ricer thing is just a fad.
I'm not talking about Z-cars, Supras, rx7s or turbo Volvos,
I'm talking about the FWD econoboxes that are made to go to pont A to point B.

the only FWD car I think can a hot rod is a Caddy.

but, what about the Z-car and the like?
how about the Infinity J-30, or Q45? can't you see a J30 with
steelies and big whitewalls? the Q45 has a V8, and they both
are RWD.
I sure can't draw the line.

Hey Rubberman, I didn't mean to exclude newer cars with my post, I was only trying to show that true Muscle Cars are only one area of Hot Rodding. I have a buddy with a "Hot Rod" 2001 T/A that runs low 11's with nitrous and some other mods!! Still using the little 7.5 rearend!!

Hey guys.....as much as you hate to admit it (and me too), the Jap crap, as you put it, are still Hot Rods...

Didn't say they are what we like, but they still fit the definition.

Back in the early 90's I did just that. I blew up the rotary in my '79 Mazda RX7 and just about the same time my daughter went off to college leaving an old Regal with an Olds 307 sitting in the garage. So I pulled the rotary and stuffed the 307 with 350 trany in its place. The conversion turned out to be fairly easy. I think it's fair to say it was a hot rod. Not to mention fun.
