definetly not a hotrod but...
i have a 1995 chrysler cirrus that has had some tranny problems. every once and a while it just drops into first gear and wont shift out. i need some help with this. i have no idea what i can do for this but i had asked someone at work and they had said that they knew of a "safety" thing. that if there was any problems with the trans it would go into first and not shift out. he said that he found it when he screwed around with the wiring on a 95 civic, and it locked into 1st gear. so should i look for a new trans or bad wiring?

You have a computer controlled trans. There is some kind of malfunction that the computer has detected, causing "limp-in" mode to be commanded.
Your vehicle will require a diagnostic scanner inspection and test drive to determine the failure. Could be either electrical or mechanical causes. Finds an ATRA or ATSG member trans shop in your area. |

95 dodge
Common problem with the 95 Cirrus, Neon, and Stratus. It is you kick down linkage. When you push hard on the accelerator it kicks down into second gear. Because of the location of the linkage it gets full of road grime, salt, etc. It will not return. You are stuck in second gear. It is located drivers side front. Getting to it could be fun. It's much easier to access in the Neon. You need to clean and lubricate it.
It will give you a tell tale sign before it gets bad enough to get stuck. When it is getting dirty. You will feel a heavy spot in the accelerator at about have throttle. It is telling you to lubricate it. Left ignored your left in second gear. |
