Hello,
I've just found this site (yesterday) and have already learned quite a bit so, thank you!
My questions have to do with a compressor I recently bought (cheap).
I purchased the compressor pump and motor assembly; the tank was grabbed by someone who didn't recognize the value of the set-up and wanted to make a BBQ pit out of it (the compressor had two 5hp DeVilbisses placed atop a horizontally-positioned 150 gallon tank).
I won't be rushing into this project but, I'll admit to being eager to get it up and running.
For now, I'm seeking input from those who've got experience with a large compressor of this sort. I welcome all ideas, suggestions, and input though.

1) Are there pros & cons of a 60 gallon receiver vs. an 80 gallon one?
2) Will the noise level be excessive in my residential garage? (I read on an online manufacturer's technical page that it is akin to "loud conversation.")
3) Besides changing the oil, is there anything else I should do prior to initial start-up?

Look in the yellow pages for a compressor repair place,i would try to find a NEW 80 gallon tank,but,before you spend a lot of money on this project,check that the pump and motor you bought,are up to the job,if the pump is too small,it will take forever to pump up, new tank should run ABOUT $400.00.or so,if you buy a used tank,check dates on tank,and try to inspect inside tank for rust.MOVE the compressor OUTSIDE your garage,all compressors are noisy...

Bob, the size of this model prevent my carting off for repair; the compressor pump alone weighs 260 lbs. All told, it weighs about 400 lbs.

This is an industrial compressor. (Maybe, I should have elaborated more.)
