Hey All.
You ever find yourself regretting certain choices you make in life? Im talking in particular, car choices and engine choices.
Im finding myself browsing thru the Hemi Ebay ads and wanting to build another one for the Gremlin(Hence my original name), but I know it will be hard to instal and that was the reason in the first place I sold it, But I cant stop dreaming again of one! <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[drool]" />
Am I having boredom thoughts, or was I a nut for getting rid of my first engine and plans to put the Hemi in my car?
Should I go 4 it or am I just dreaming again?
I find myself like Hi on Raising Arizon when he said he was finding himself driving by convenient stores that WERENT on the way home. Anyway, just thinking. HG

Well Hemi old boy, have you got about $15,000.00 that you can spend on this project? I don't think the unibody construction on your Gremlin will not support the weight of a hemi engine. I think the lightest hemi that Chrysler made, tips the scale at a hefty 800 lbs or so, which is most likely about 400 lbs more than the stock 6 banger that came in your Gremlin. That means you will need to have a custom built frame ($6,000.00). The hemi develops a tremendous amount of torque, so you will need a heavy duty differential (figure about $2500.00) and the transmission must be a heavy duty unit (another $2000.00.) Add in a HD driveshaft, big brakes to stop this old girl, an oversize radiator to cool that elephant, a custom exhaust system and some other incidentals like a paint job, tires and wheels. As you can see $15,000.00 goes pretty quick!

First off, Have you looked at his car thus far?

Second, he is a hotrodder, half this stuff you are estimated he will do himself for much cheaper. He also might be able to score a deal on something somewhere.

15 Grand DOES seem a little steep considering what the car has done to it so far. Also it must just be my area, but I think that there are enough rodders in my area that would band together to help out another rodder, so they could stay on the low end of the cost scale.
15 grand?....I think with that kinda dough I could BUY a built driver for that much if not less.

Why not a big block Chev Hemmi? Cheaper to build and you will likely see more power for the dollar. Doing a vintage Hemi is a noble aspersion but the dollar figure to make it happen may be to steep. Maybe think about the highest HP for the money and having 500Hp at your disposal. Since I have known you I believe your one of those guys who can never have enough power...or biceps.

Please never give me a headlock! ;)

Just another take on the situation.

Thanks Guys.
I know what your saying Benji, but I have a pretty healthy setup thus far, so Id figure buying, building and doing the front end setup total would be around 6-8 grand. I just love the look of a Hemi. Its something that only I will have. A Hemi in the Gremlin. I wonder if the old 270 Desoto Hemi's are lighter? Ah Hell! I'll just buy a 426 and be done with it. Im thinking again, watch out. HG
P.S. 4 Jaw, did you say you wanted to wrestle?
