Difference AOD-E & 4R70W

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me out. What exactly is the difference between the AOD-E and 4R70W. Is the 4R70W just a wide ratio AOD-E? Anything would be very helpful. Thanks

well, yes & no.

Gear ratios are different.

Depending on what years of AODE & 4R70W you are comparing.

Ford used both at the same time for a while and they will bolt in place of one another......... BUT , you will get a trouble code with the vehicles computer that a gear ratio ERROR has been detected.
Dont worry how old you are... it is the mileage on your body that adds up.
