i purchased two different spark plug brands for my 63 buick special 215 2v, points ign. one plug is a ngk the other is a champion. upon inspection i noticed the ngk has 7 threads while the champion has 5 threads making the champion about 3/16 inch shorter. the snouts are the same. i checked both brands and they are correct for their application. . why would there be such a differance in the length of these plugs for the same application? whats up with this? i will try these different plugs in a couple days.

G'day
Spark plug companies usually make only a few "blanks" and put their tips in to suit varying application, some are used with gaskets. Additionally, different methods are employed such as projecting the tip, altering the tip profile and material of the electrode to attain the same results.
one of those guys has a catalog error. you don't want the plug sticking too far into the camber, or not fully inserted either, you could get preignition from the threads getting hot.
any way to measure the thread depth to see witch one is correct?
