Difficult paint match

Having a problem with the paint store guy matching Dupont chroma Base to a orange Bell Helicopter color. He got it correct in single stage Chroma One but has missed it 2 occasions with 2 different suppliers ending up with the color too dark. It looks correct on the can lid but when its cleared out it doesn't match. I'm using light gray 2K primer and its been suggested I lay down a white base coat before the orange. The paint covers like mad and it seems this step might be a waste of material. any pro's to this suggestion and comments appreciated, Walt
attached photo shows the color difference in the cowl to the fuse, this is a Hot Rod of a different make

I don't know if light grey under the orange is the problem for sure, but I know we used a 2000 Corvette yellow Base/Clear over black sealer instead of the recommended white sealer and it darkened the yellow, made it look ever so slightly greenish looking a tiny bit. Tried more coats of base but couldn't get rid of the tint. Re-did the same yellow with a white sealer and it was fine.

Another yellow vehicle we did over Buff colored primer, it came out fine also.

Cool plane, that's a big'un!

What is the fuse and wings covered in, Monokote, Solarfilm, or something else? Southern R/C will match Monokote colors perfectly.

Nice plane by the way, what engine does it have?

perfect match in these colors is very hard to do.

I repaired a SIG Sukhoi for a friend of mine and it was covered in Ultracoat that was almost a jade green and white. The local PPG rep matched the white real good, but had a very hard time matching the green. I sent Southern R/C a swatch of the green covering and they sent back a pint of paint that matched the green perfectly, I was very impressed.

The PPG rep was using their "Profit" paint match system, and I believe Southern R/C does paint matches by hand.

Vey nice site Walt and some professional work. I have been flying R/C since I was about 19 and that was a long time ago. I recently downsized from large gas models. The last one I built was an old Bert Baker (for-runner to Yellow Aircraft) P47 with a Zenoah G-62. I was a real hauler, and an absolute blast to fly.
