re: dipstick problems with 350 trans

The problem with those chrome sticks is that they are the right diameter before they chrome them. Then the chrome plating adds enough thickness to make a tight fit.
Sanding with a strip of emory cloth might help, it'd be great if you had a spare trans on the floor to test fit it.
Also make sure it's going in straight.

This job is definetly a two person operation, get some help inserting it. One from above and one below, you could also try a smaller diameter O-ring if your still having trouble.

Good luck.

re: dipstick problems with 350 trans

Jason is correct.
The dipstick tube stamping is not correct. Most likely the O-ring groove is too small for the O-ring needed and the O-ring is also binding in the bore. You might get lucky by sanding the chrome off the portion that goes into the case, silicone the area around the O-ring groove (no O-ring) and install. Do not add any trans fluid until the silicone has hardened or you will get a severe leak.
Good luck.
