Disassembling Cutlass tailight housing(is this correct section??)

Im attempting to add LED strips in the rear of my g-body Cutlass. Problem is seperating the lightn housing. it seems soo brittle. Tried seperating with a small screwdriver and It started to crack. Tried a heat gun but too much of that makes the plastic melt. Anybody ever took these apart before? Any further suggestions??

On my BMW we baked them in an oven....200 degrees for about 10-20 min..... can't remember exactly, but the halves are held together by glue....on the BMW ones. Might be worth a shot on the American made ones.

Its the same on here, 2 halves held together by glue. I read some where to let sit in an oven but I'm afraid it'll melt. It started to bubble in one section just from the heat gun. I've got another set layin around......I'll try those in the oven. Thanx

A heat gun can reach temps of over 500 degrees..... in a concertrated area etc...... a oven heats the whole thing up slowly..... bake for 5 min, try to pry apart, 10 min, try again etc.... after 20 min raise the temp 25 degrees and start the whole pry thing over again..... at least that's how I did it on my headlights on the Bimmer

I put 1 in the oven today @ 200° for 18 min. It was still sealed together tightly and I would've put it back in the oven but I noticed the red lense portion started to warp and was no longer straight up n down. Now I'm really puzzled as to what I should do.

Sometimes plastics a fastened together with a solvent welding process so the joint is as strong as the parts being joined.
I would try cutting the pieces apart with a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel.
The cutoff wheels a very thin so very little material would be removed.
