disc brakes for a '64 Caddy
I'm helping a friend with his '64 Cadillac Sedan de Ville and was wondering if anyone has ever swapped out the front drums for a disc setup. I know that the '67-'69 Cadillac suspension is the same and the swap should be fairly straight forward. The only problem is that the '69 rotors necessitate use of '69 wheels as the '64s won't fit.
Another concern is the modifications typically made for the booster to fit properly. the mounting stud holes are different from '64 to '69 and the brake lines from the master cylinder exit differently causing modifications to the inner fenders to be necessary for clearance. My friend does not want to modify any of the panels.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Check out some of the brake companies like Stainless Steel brakes or one of the others, they offer kits for about anything. The wheel problem is most likely the hole size in the middle which seems to be typical, is there a reason you want to stick with the early wheels?
My friend was wanting to keep the original wheels, but it never really occurred to me why. He wants to use the original hubcaps. The wheels don't really matter as long as the caps fit.
