dish or flat top piston?

I called a place about getting a short block. I have no core so any 350 would do. The engine specs I are for a daily driver.

282 crane cam
vortec heads shaved .020

what i want is around 9.5 c/r maybe a bit more. Definitely not more than 10.

They have a .040 over 4 bolt left hand dip stick block but it has dish pistons. I am concerned that I may not reach my needed c/r for cam (it matches my gearing). I wasn't sure if it would turn out to have too much c/r with flat tops. The bad engine in the car now has 11.5 c/r which wasn't good for daily driving (same heads). I know this is vague I am just looking for ballpark. If it ain't gonna work with standard dish pistons and I need the flat tops than so be it. I just want to run pump gas.

Install the vortec heads with a thin .015" head gasket. The cr will be at or very close to 9.5:1 based on a 62cc head and standard .025" piston deck clearance
-15cc piston dish volume

What you need to ask is, "What is deck height AND the part number and dish volume of the pistons in this engine?".

Do not say "I need an engine w/"xx" cc dished pistons", let them tell you first.

When I called I told them I wanted a 350 short block assembly that would get me around a 9.5 cr with 64cc heads or vortecs. Then he asked me if I wanted flat tops or dish. I went with dish because I wasn't sure about going to high with flat top.

I would rather have a soggy low end than I rattle can.
I was referred to go there from a member on this forum and their prices are pretty good. They aren't too far from me either.
