dish network vs. directv

I am about to sign up for small dish satellite TV. Has anybody had any problems with either one of the two big names? Any suggestions or helpful buying tips?

They both seem to offer similar packages so maybe it comes down to customer service.

I wish I could get the small package and add SPEED network to it without buying the big package!

Thanks,
Rick

I am 99.99% happy with it. I am not happy that they took the free concerts off and now have this American Bandstand/TRL Live/American Idol/Variety Show concert series. CD Now I think it is called. Come on, they used to have Clapton, Phil Collins, Rush, U2, Bon Jovi, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel, Motley Crue, and on and on and on. Now it is geared to the 15-25 year old crowd I guess. That said, I still love it.

Speed

I used to get SPEED channel when it first started on the big dish. I am a NASCAR fan but I also liked the oddball stuff they had on back then. I remember some big truck racing, boat road course type racing (not sure what the real name is), and later on that series with Alan Decardena (Sp?) talking about vintage exotic cars. That show had some awesome footage!

I guess I should check out some of their programming before I make my decision.

i've got dish network, and i like it. liked it even better before the rates went up . but it's still cheaper than cable, and 12x more channels.... and the DVR is worth it to me.... that way, i can watch what i want when i want and skip the commercials.

If you do not have a totally clear view of the sky, you might need to have BOTH outfits come to your property and determine if they can hit the satellite. Sometimes DISH will not work in a certain location and sometimes DIRECTV will not work. Also, if you want the local networks (this is true in our area at least) you have to install a second dish and aim at yet another satellite. Other than that, I don't think there is much difference in terms of programming and reliability. Just make sure you can get a good strong signal off the bird.
