Hey All,

Is there any way to convert my stock front drum brakes (mby rear) to new style disk brakes with junkyard parts? I have a 1953 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup (3600) that is my first restoration project. I know there are conversion kits for the 53 Chevy truck but they are expensive and i am kinda on a budget.

I also don't want to do the whole front end mustang thing cuz i would like to restoration my truck but upgrade it a little. If there is anyone out there who could give me some advise it would help.

it has been done. the guy who'd done it used to have a web page showing exactly what he'd done. there was a link to it on chevytrucks.org. i just found out it doesn't exist anymore. he used a 90's model 3/4 or 1 ton rotor & made a caliper bracket from 3/8 or 1/2 " plate. don't know what he did for bearings. i know this can be done! if you keep looking you'll find a way. then you can write back to the editor of classic trucks & tell him you're a real hot rodder & you can update your truck without all those mailorder kits they advertise in his rag!!
you are the guy that wrote them asking this same question right? i sure wasn't impressed with his answer.

No i wasn't that guy but when i do find a way to do it I sure will tell the magazines because all/most those kits they sell don't even work for a 3/4 ton 53.

At least i know there was someone who has done it before and it gives me confidence in my cause.

I have a couple friends that welded and installed S-10 brakes on their car. They can go to any part store to pick up replacement pads now.
