Dist gear for mellings cam?
I "think" I should be ok but want to ask. Will this gear thats on this dist be ok with a stock mellings cam? The cam is a pre 90 style hydraulic flat tappet. Using 10w30 VR1 conventional oil. The engine is stock with a stock oil pump and will not see 6000 rpm , its a low rpm engine. Should I do this modification to the shaft?
Also the instructions also call to remove the oil filter bypass, how do you do this?
I have swapped a few dist and dont remember all this stuff.
Thanks , its a new engine and dont want to shear the gear off :pain:

As long as your camshaft isnt a roller cam(it isnt) made from billet stock, you will be fine. dont need the dist. modification either. That article and mod is about roller camshafts.
Just make sure you have enough ZDDP additive in your oil, and follow proper camshaft breakin procedures.
