Post Distributer advance modifications

At the track I hear of guys welding the advance weights so that you run only on were you set the base timeing.Why would you want to do that?? Wouldn't you lose low end??It probably wouldn't matter much with 5.13s but still??Or is this a way of making up for to much low end and making upper rpm power quicker??

The cars never run under 3500 rpm for long. When you launch at 5500 who cares what happens off idle. Doing this also tends to stabilize the timing since you don't have a moving breaker/pick up etc. Definetly a track only mod.
