distributer question

taking out a 305 replacing with a 350 wiyh i asume about 300 hp.
will replacing my distributer help or gain hp?

The distributor you have should work...(if nothing is wrong with it) Unless you go to a MSD set up.. Then it will perform better..

I agree with New. Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the dist you have, use it. You won't feel and difference in hp with a new one. But if it is old, worn out a new one will let your engine be more efficient, which may lead to a few extra hp, but nothing you are going to feel inn the seat. JMO

well there is alot to be done to improve these ...is this a stock chevy HEI distributor? if so take it apart clean the advance mechanism often times these become sticky or even frozen, shim the gear on the bottom, change the weights and springs, replace the internals with some newer higher power stuff and life will be good......dont forget to check the vaccum advance cannister to make sure its working. there are lots of articles for "tuning the distributor" and yes working on it will make a difference
