anyone heard of ati or ait distbutor? , trying to find a good brand.

If the part has Accel on it - I WILL NOT use it. The were once a good independent company, then Mr Gasket took it over (as it did with Mallory) and turned the name into junk. It was again spun off a short while back - so don't expect much improvement for a while, if ever. Myself, I stick with MSD, who in the last year or so was, I think, also sold, but I believe that it's still a pretty good product.

Your question about ATI - I did a quick Google - and the only real items found were transmission parts and dampers

How about GM - as in stock HEI? I've never understood why people pay hundreds of dollars for aftermarket distributors that are exactly the same as stock. Change the ignition module or coil if you want, advance curve kits are cheap also. The aluminum housing and steel shaft won't be different in the expensive aftermarket unit. You can shim the shaft to eliminate end play and even replace the bushings if you feel the need (though another stock housing would probably be cheaper).
