distributor difference

I am having trouble with an 85 TPI setup. Just had a quicj question on the distributor though. I notice that almost 99% of the parts for the ignition between an 85 Trans Am (which had a 305) and an 85 Corvette (which had a 350) are the same. Even the ignition module. However, the distributor part numbers are different. Any ideas what the difference would be and what it would affect?

Thanks for any ideas.

Regards,

Dylan.

Part number differences can reflect the intended vehicle. It can also reflect a different mechanical advance rate and limit.

Well from what I know the TPI's in 85 were pretty universal as it was their first year. Even the ECM's were the same. Would there be any difference in the dist. gears or length? Physical differences that might affect timing or firing in a 350 vs. a 305?
