Distributor flange Sitting .112 up to intake

Last year I ran a Melling high volume pump and Harden drive shaft.
The distributor wet in fine and I ran a .062 gasket.
I change the Pan and Pump to a Milodon 7 qt. and a Milodon 18750 high pressure and volume pump. I used the same harden shaft (Stock Length) The distributor flange is .112 Gap from the intake.

It will not go any further down. Everything hits bottom.

What could cause this? Shaft too Long?

Thanks for your help.

If you don't have an adjustable distributor and you are positive the drive shaft collar is all the way down on the pump shaft, you can get back 0.100” of that by using a Milodon p/n 32500 baffle under the oil pump. The rest can come from Mr. Gasket p/n 6059 shims. Or, all of it can come from the shims for that matter.

Cobalt 327,

That sounds like a Plan and some good advice. I will drain it tomorrow and pull the pan. Tonight I will order the Shims, Spacer and New Pan Gasket. Since I do not have an adjustable distributor (MSD Low profile) I will shoot for just putting it back the way it ran last year. Distributor all the way down to the intake no gasket and the back it up with a .062 gasket.

Thank You !! Dave

Dave, just to let you know ahead of time, that baffle- should you use one- often requires clearancing so it doesn't rest directly on the rear cap bolts. If you are using studs, it for sure will need work.

Good luck.

Cobalt 327,

I will note that when I get the Parts on Wednesday and start the install process. I will let you know if I find anything wrong with the pump and intermediate rod when I talk it a part tonight.

Thanks Dave
