Distributor Gear?

I'm using a Comp cams Retro-fit Hyd. Roller cam and I was doing some reading today and read I'm supposed to be using a bronze gear? I can honestly say I'm using a stock HEI gear and it shows 0 signs of wear. Should I swap it? Is the info correct?

What engine is it? I know the ford roller cam if you dont use the proper gear it will eventually eat it up. Cole

The motor is a SBC, Cole.

The cam is a custom grind so getting info from Comp Sucks sometimes...
My cam card says : CAMSHAFT BLANK, CS CHEV SB AUSTEMPERED Special
Grind

So I assume I should be ok? And I know my dist. gear is from a Flat tappet HEI since thats what I was using last.

Most cams flat tappet and roller are being made with stock-type iron distributor gears. I would make the call. Cole

You are fine with the gear you have now because the cam is on an Austempered Iron core. A Bronze gear is only needed if the cam is a billet steel core.

Even billet steel cams if they have the pressed on iron gear they can be used with stock iron gears. Make sure though its a good quality one not from a autoparts store like autozone etc cause I have read they are softer. I had a crane powermax hydraullic roller cam and they state it can be used with a stock iron distributor gear. Just have to check from cam maker to cam maker.
