Distributor gear fix?

I have a Prestolite distributor from a Ford 351W that I need help with. I changed the gear with a steel gear that seems to be on the loose side. I can push it on by hand, did not need to press it on. How much torque will this gear be taking? Can I just use a roll pin to hold it in place or should I spot weld it?

TIA

distributor gear

have worked on many ford distributors have yet to see one that the gear just slides on. from Y blocks Fe's and 302s. prior to breaker less ign. it is more critical as were points to open and close . now throw in a high volume pump. in my opinion the gear should at least be a tap fit. other wise wont be on any engine i build. plus always replace role pin with a known quality.
